Can't use chat feature... the sequal

what about IRC? or socket.io makes for an easy inhouse chat solution

That would require maintaining a server to host it.  I'm done maintining extra servers. I've shut down every additional server beyond those that are necessary for the site to function.
I'm down to $130/mo to run this site.  If I ever get the ambition and energy, I'll migrate everything over to a single large server which should drop us down to like $50/mo.
