Group Sourcing for Points!

Hey everyone!

I have a few projects coming up that involve mining a lot of data in a particularly short amount of time, from a huge diverse collection of websites.  Well, writing a bot for this would be insane and not very cost effective.  So, the idea is to group source!

Basically, I'm going to build an interface for collecting data.  You will be able to request an address, go there, find the data, enter it in a form, and get points!  It's a bit monotonous, but it should produce some extra money for the site, and in turn keep accounts active for even longer!

What do you guys think?

Well, I'm not sure how short in a time you are but for sure we don't have that many people "working" here to really work on a huge amount of data. Other than that worry, I'm sure that people would love more ways of getting points.
How many points are you thinking of giving for each task? Also, how hard do you think it would be each one of the tasks?

Difficulty is tiny, amount of data is small.  100pts for ~1 minute's worth of work sounds like a great way to motivate people.

We don't have a workforce, we instead have a decent population. :)

Well, I have to build the interface first, and I need to gather the initial set of data.

Basically, I'll be looking for contact information. I'll provide a URL, you enter the contact info into the form.  There'll be less than 1000 in total when it's all said and done.

Sounds like a good idea, especially since the majority of them still have trouble getting out of their shell. There should be something in place just in case they feed wrong data to quickly get a shitload of points though.

To make an excessively long story short....

A competitor got bought out by a bunch of asshats.  Well, their clients are jumping ship left and right.  We're putting together a list of every domain that the bought out competitor hosted.  Once we have that list, I'll have the group source stuff up.  You'll "Checkout" an entry, it will provide you a url and a form.  Click the url, find the data, enter it in the form, return for points.  Then, checkout the next entry.  If any entry sits for more than 10 minutes, it will check back in.

All of the entries will be reviewed by non-kh staff, as we will be direct mailing the address info gathered from the links.


If this works out correctly, we'll have a bad ass little tool for running campaigns. :)

A few minutes finding the information for an easy 100 points, don't mind if i do lol. Im curious is it 1 per person or grab the spots whilst you can?

Here's the process...

1) Click Grab
2) The system will look at all entries you have not touched.
3) The system will eliminate entries that have at least 5 evaluations.
4) The system will randomize the remainder.
5) The system will shit one of those out for you to deal with.
6) You enter the data and hit continuer.
7) The system will store your data
8) The system will mark that entry as completed by you.
9) The system will then check to see if at least 5 people have handled that entry.  If so, the entry will become locked.
10) The system will award you points.

Yup.  Not too shabby.

Oh man, I'm going to spend my entire next week doing this at work since I have nothing else to do.

We've got our first asshole!  ItsTHC has been permabanned for entering in hundreds of entries with only the words "no info".  I opened the first damn link and guess what?  Contact info on every damn page.

Let this be a lesson.  I'm watching.  Enter in bullshit data, permanban, shocksites galore.

So I just want to make sure that I am not doing this wrong and sending you a ton of bad data.

If there is just a block for their contact info, I can copy and paste that into the block info section.  Do I still need to fill in the separate text boxes with the info too, or does the block suffice?

Yes, fill in the separate sections.  They are there for a reason.

Oops, sorry about that then.  There are probably 10-15 where I only put in the block :(.

The whole purpose of this experiment is to gather data in such a way that we can use it without having to review an address block for each entry.

To make a long story short, the URLs are all URLs of clients of a particular company.  If we can gather all of the necessary data, it wil be sold to a 3rd party to keep us going. :)
